We’d like to call them heroes. But they don’t like the tag. In fact, these people were reluctant to be interviewed.
“I’m not doing anything extraordinary,” Patricia Hizon said.
“Nagtatrabaho lang ako,” said Jeff Canoy.
Marc Nelson said, “I didn’t really do that much compared to others out there.”
But we think their stories need to be heard. They faced adversity, with their choice of weapons—laptops, a well-equipped kitchen, a microphone, their voices, guts and good hearts. With so many other heroes who emerged as the rain fell, they provided light in the dark. They were the faces of hope during a disaster that didn’t even have a name
