Decorating my home is an ongoing project. Paintings and pieces of furniture get swapped on almost a weekly basis. I realize that having children does not mean that one has to baby-proof the house; it only means that you can make things more interesting for them to look at.
I’ve scoured the city’s home décor and furniture stores and have not found anything new in a long time. Finally, out of the winding maze of Poblacion rises PhoeNix Home of Nix Alañon.
An interior decorator by trade, Nix started making furniture to satisfy the needs of his clients. In PhoeNix, I found pieces that I had a hard time finding; beautiful accent chairs and tables, armoires and throw pillows. Nix has a penchant for animal-inspired things, as seen in his chairs with animal legs, animal accessories, and even beautiful cowhide rugs from Argentina.
Three-dimensional
Displayed among the furniture and home accessories are the works of Eugenia Alcaide, an artist Nix had discovered. Her pieces have a three-dimensional effect when held up to the light.
Nix’s various collections are inspired by his many travels abroad. ” I like to see what is out there and what other people are doing,” he says. Nix then takes these inspirations to create his own pieces. Different patterns and textures dominate Nix’s collection, adding variety even to “safe” items, such as one of my personal favorites, accent chairs in white upholstery with silver bamboo detail on the side.
Nix’s pieces are a good bet for those who want to venture into a more bold style. One piece from his collections is sure to punctuate a room. At the same time, the collection, when set up as a whole, works well together, and is not a shock to one’s conservative home decorating aesthetic.
