Spanish dance is ready to capture Manila once again as Instituto Cervantes de Manila and the Embassy of Spain present En Danza, a Spanish contemporary-dance and flamenco season this November.

A contemporary show from one of the most renowned Spanish dance companies, Teresa Nieto & Co., and a flamenco performance featuring the young and promising dancer-choreographer Eduardo Guerrero will take place at Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, on Nov. 20 and 27, 7 p.m.

An award-winning dancer, teacher and choreographer Teresa Nieto received the Spanish National Dance Award in 2004 and two Max performing-arts awards as Best Female Dancer in 2007 and 2009.

In 1990 she founded her own company, Teresa Nieto & Co., which has earned several awards and recognition worldwide.

“Al mal tiempo buena cara” is a compilation of various snippets of Teresa Nieto & Co.’s past shows, special moments encapsulating their work and style.

First visit

The festival also features Spanish flamenco dancer Guerrero.

“De Dolores” is a homage to the dancer’s grandmother, the person who noticed his talent when he was six years old.

FLAMENCO and Spanish dance are on the rise.

Guerrero has already performed with some of the biggest names in flamenco such as Eva Yerbabuena, Amador Rojas or Antonio Canales, among others. For his first visit to the Philippines, Guerrero will share his knowledge and talent in a master class on Nov. 28, 10:30 a.m., at Instituto Cervantes de Manila (tel. 5261482).

EN DANZA features the elegance and style of Spanish dance companies.

Flamenco and Spanish dance are nowadays on the rise. En Danza wants to bring to the heart of Makati the elegance and style of Spanish dance companies through these two avant-garde and innovative proposals. This is also in line with the new contemporary sound and lights featured in the walls of Manila.

En Danza is jointly organized by the Embassy of Spain in the Philippines and Instituto Cervantes de Manila with the cooperation of the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports and Comunidad de Madrid, with the support of Casa Europa/Porcelanosa, Bench, Emperador Distillers and Philippine Airlines.

“Al mal tiempo buena cara” by Teresa Nieto & Co. will take place on Nov. 20, 7 p.m. “De Dolores” by Guerrero will be shown on Nov. 27, 7 p.m.

Venue is at Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, Ayala Ave., Makati.

Admission to all the screenings is free on a first-come, first-served basis. Call 5261482 or visit https://manila.cervantes.es. Instituto Cervantes de Manila is at 855 T.M. Kalaw St., Ermita, Manila.
