Are your neighbor’s karaoke sessions distracting your studies or WFH? PNP says no more | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

If you’re thinking about partying at home and plugging in your karaoke machine to sing (or dance) the night away, you might want to think again.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) wants every barangay to issue ordinances against karaoke sessions and other activities deemed “noisy” as consideration for those busy studying and working at home.

Noting that these activities can be distracting for everyone telecommuting or doing online learning, PNP chief General Camilo Cascolan said that they will be coordinating with barangays in order to ensure “peace and quiet” in their areas.

“We will be asking the barangay to have a resolution regarding the use of this noisy equipment. Barangay ordinances will be in place and we will coordinate with them,” said Cascolan in a press briefing today. Plans are also up for the establishment of barangay assistance centers, which will be manned by at least two officers.

Joint Task Force COVID Shield commander Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar also mentioned that increasing police visibility in areas like popular neighborhood spots should be considered a must, based on viral videos received by the police, which showed quarantine violators scramming upon seeing patrols.

“Police presence on the streets and in the community is also in time for the start of the classes for public schools nationwide. Through the police presence, online learners would not be disturbed and distracted by noises from the people who hang out on the streets,” said Eleazar.
