Stations of the Cross live streams and other Holy Week events | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

While the Philippines is a diverse country with different belief systems and traditions, it’s impossible for us to overlook the prominence of Christianity in the nation. Every year, the Catholic faithful gather to celebrate the final week of the Lenten season through a series of observances that revolve around Jesus’ sacrifice for mankind.

With enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in full swing for Holy Week, most of these observances have migrated to the online sphere again to give the faithful a sense of community during these difficult times. While being physically present was of utmost importance to these traditions pre-quarantine, the rising number of cases has given the Church an opportunity to reach out to their communities safely through live streaming events.

While Holy Week starts with Palm Sunday (which has already passed), there are still other events like the reenactment of the Last Supper on Maundy Thursday, Stations of the Cross on Good Friday, Easter Vigil Mass on Black Saturday and the celebratory mass of Christ’s resurrection on Easter Sunday.

If you’re Catholic and would like to observe Holy Week traditions, here’s a list of when and where you can participate in these events from the safety of your home.

Manila Cathedral

Santuario de San Antonio

Minor Basilica and National Shrine of San Lorenzo Ruiz

Santuario de San Jose

Malate Church

Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño de Cebu
