It’s always admirable when a young retail brand is dedicated to paying it forward to society. Kada is primarily inspired by Pinoy-themed T-shirts, but the ground rules for its business are anchored on charitable endeavors, specifically to provide education to children.
A recent brush with fate and the theme “Coming of Age” had led me to contemplate the journeys of those about to end a chapter of their lives, and where they are headed. College stands as the bridge between the road that has been and the bigger world yet to come—the final call that insists you grow up and take life more seriously.
I’m a third year college student taking a business-related course. I used to love my course in the beginning, until I discovered my passion for writing. I think I can’t love two things at the same time. I can’t give up taking the business course, and I’m afraid my passion for writing will soon fade away.
Hearing about a 5,000-mile walk around Southeast Asia for a cause sounds like equal parts nobility––and, well, insanity. This is the first I’ve heard of a young man on a solitary trek for a year to foreign lands, to help underprivileged children.
Ever since I could remember, there would always be a pen and paper in my hand. I would draw all day. I stayed inside the house and drew to my heart’s content, rather than playing outside with other kids. I would draw anything, from landscapes to clothes, and enjoy every minute of being alone—watching TV, with art materials and a bowl of cereal.
They began with radio, moved to a newspaper—and now, they’re invading bookshelves.
They say school prepares us for the future and sets us up for the real world. Twenty-year-old racing champ Marlon Stockinger has yet to continue and complete his formal education, but under his helmet are exceptional knowledge and skills with which he can surely outrace anyone with a college diploma.
These days, teenagers holding on to their smartphones while tapping away on their keypads is a familiar sight. When they’re not bopping their heads to music flowing through their earphones, or playing games, they’re chatting on social networks and downloading applications.
As the holiday season enters, it’s certainly time to dress to impress.
