I love scents! But who doesn’t? Even my friends who don’t like using perfume will spray on some cologne. And the thing with scents is you may not like to use them, but you do like to smell it on someone.

While having lunch, my coworker excused herself to buy her dad a Father’s Day gift. I told her the easiest thing to give a man who has everything is cologne. In fact we started talking about scents we would use if we were male.

Since today’s column is about Father’s Day gift ideas, I only included scents that are available in the Philippines. I also noticed that most of the scents I chose were unisex.

Here are my Top 8, in no particular order:

Acca Kappa’s Muschio Bianco

Muschio Bianco is a consistent bestseller from the Acca Kappa line. Its main notes are lavender and juniper—these are the soul of the fragrance deftly supported by the aromas of wood, ambergris and moss. (Available at Rustan’s)

Frederic Malle’s Carnal Flower

This is a fragrance with the scent of tuberose. Tuberose is a beautiful and dangerous flower. In some cultures, it is not allowed for young women to feel its intoxicating scent after sunset. Terre d’Hermes Parfum by Hermes

This a woody Chypre fragrance for men. Top notes are grapefruit and orange; base notes are woodsy notes, oak moss and benzoin. The nose behind this fragrance is Jean-Claude Ellena. (Available at Hermes)

English Fern by Penhaligon’s

This is an Aromatic Fougere fragrance for men and women. Top notes are lavender and geranium; middle note is cloves; base notes are sandalwood, patchouli and oakmoss. (Available at Adora)

Acqua Di Parma Colonia

This was presented as a citrus fragrance, composed of lavender, rosemary, Sicilian citrus, Bulgarian rose, jasmine, amber and light musk. (Available at Rustan’s)

Oud Cashmere Mood Maison Francis Kurkdjian

Oud is enriched with woody and spicy notes of cedar, patchouli and saffron. It is a very luxurious and modern scent. (Available at Univers)

Comme des Garçons Eau de Parfum

This is the first fragrance of the Comme des Garçons house. This avant-garde perfume does not fit into classical three-phase perfume structures with top, middle and base notes. The main components are labdanum, cedar, styrax, galbanum, sandalwood, carnation, hay, black pepper, frankincense, cinnamon, geranium, cardamom, nutmeg, Turkish rose, French honey and coriander.
