IT’S THAT time of the year when the world celebrates love, when people—especially teens—get into a romantic mood, seizing the opportunity to express their feelings and emotions in a more demonstrative manner.
Tomorrow, Feb. 14, social media will have an explosion of posts, tweets and photos of lovers marking Valentine’s Day.
Character types
Here’s a playful take on a few character types, including couples, that make Love Month fun as well.
The Cuddly Bear Hunk
He’s the guy whose dating style involves expensive dinners, buying a dozen roses, and making his girl feel the prettiest on Valentine’s Day.
Spider-Man
He’s brilliant in hiding his real identity, sending gifts without the girl knowing who he is, revealing his name only on Valentine’s Day itself. He’s very adept in selecting and buying the right kind of flowers and chocolates at the last minute.
The Great Pretender
He spends Valentine’s Day pretending it’s nothing special, hanging out in malls with friends with a similar view. The truth is, he wallows in bitterness, looking back at past relationships with regret, and declaring “Walang forever.”
Mr. Hopeless Romantic
He won’t hesitate saving a relationship on Valentine’s Day because, in the first place, he starts everything by professing his love in a classic, old-fashioned way: “Will you be my girl?”
He even has the gall to do the traditional harana with props on the school grounds.
But soon enough he finds that life is not always full of sunshine and, when that rainy day comes, he musters all the courage and strength to do everything to keep the love alive.
Single and Free
He or she is content being unattached and carefree, unaffected by and resistant to peer pressure.
When walking around, they don’t really care seeing couples engaged in public displays of affection—preferring to study hard rather than get distracted by romantic pursuits.
They would rather spend their free time reading fiction and other books with interesting characters.
Despite the common view, they are not a minority—the ideal son or daughter any parent would love to have, they are single, free and happy.
Inspiration
Those are just observations, but deep in my heart I also have a strong admiration toward someone who serves as an inspiration—motivating me to go wherever my dreams lead me to, and not to worry about whatever happens.
She helps me understand that youth is a period in one’s life to take time and enjoy life and all its delightful surprises.
