MANILA, Philippines—Netizens took to Twitter to express their indignation over “The Naked Truth” fashion show which featured a scene where television actor Coco Martin walked on the ramp with a female acrobat on a leash.
Some people slammed the clothing company saying that the women in the said fashion show were “commodified” and regarded as sexual objects and “pets.”
Bench hosted the event last September 20 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
In light of the recent controversy, some people vowed to boycott Bench products.
Netizens also blasted Coco Martin for participating in the controversial scene.
Meanwhile, some people dismissed the outrage of netizens, stating that if they have found “The Naked Truth” offensive, then they should have not seen the show.
Some viewed the criticisms on the said fashion show as an affront to the creative freedom and artistic expression of Filipinos.
Bench issued an apology Tuesday for “offensive elements” in “The Naked Truth.” It also added that it will “continue to uphold the dignity of women.”
