“It’s funny because it’s true.”
That’s a quote from two of our favorite TV characters, Sheldon Cooper and Homer Simpson; and that’s exactly how we feel about @TitasofManila, the hilarious Twitter account that parodies, yes, the Titas of Manila.
It began innocently enough:
@TitasofManila: “Belinda, how do I use Twitter? *holds phone close to face*”
Soon, she was on a roll.
@TitasofManila: *ties red ribbon around maleta strap*
@TitasofManila: “Ang laki laki mo na! Dati ganito ka lang kaliit! *holds hand to knee*”
@TitasofManila: “Kelan ka ba ikakasal? May boyfriend ka na ba?”
@TitasofManila: “*Swims in T-shirt and shorts at the beach*”
@TitasofManila: “Magwiwi ka na, malayo pa tayo.”
And after just two days of real Tita hilarity, the account already has over 5,000 followers (and we’re sure there will be more, a lot more, by the time you read this). She even started interacting with other Twitter users, calling them hijo and hija and chastising them for saying bad words, reminding them to sleep early and telling them to get some rest. Very Tita.
@TitasofManila is supposed to lampoon different Titas but her voice is so strong and so distinct that we can hear her in our heads. To us, she’s morphed into a Mega-Tita, a jeggings-wearing, orchid-loving, White Plains puto-buying, alcogel-squirting aunt we’d all be lucky to have.
@TitasofManila has gotten so popular that other Twitter accounts like @DadsofManila and @TitosofManila have also appeared on the Twittersphere.
But Tita was the first to capture our hearts. And we told her so via Direct Message on Twitter.
She’s currently in Hong Kong but she promised a longer chat when she gets back. We’re excited to ask about her excursion (pronounced: “eckscarshun”). Your hijos and hijas will be waiting, @TitasofManila.
In the meantime, here are more Tita gems from @TitasofManila.
