Lovi Poe
LOVI Poe is the popular and award-winning actress on such TV series as GMA-7’s “Ang Dalawang Mrs. Real” and is playing the titular heroine in the upcoming “Lakambini: The Life Story of Gregoria de Jesus” to be directed by Jeffrey Jeturian and Ellen Ongkeko.”
“Paradise” by Judith McNaught is my all-time favorite book. Not to exagerrate, but this book made me feel like I was going to have a heart attack. I was literally crying, as in “hagulgol” (sobbing) kind of crying. Judith McNaught made me feel like I was Meredith (the main character). Just talking about it makes me what to read the book again.
“Eleanor & Park” by Rainbow Rowell: You know how they say that you can never feel the same kind of feeling when you fall in love the first time? Now, I don’t believe in this saying. Because when I read this book it’s like I was placed at the same spot where I first laid eyes on my first love.
“The Da Vinci Code” by Dan Brown: I really think Dan Brown is a brilliant writer.
Noreen ‘Noringai’ Capili
Noreen “Noringai” Capili is the best-selling author of “Buti pa ang Roma May Papa,” and “Parang Kayo Pero Hindi,” soon to be a movie from Star Cinema. She is the writer of ABS-CBN shows like “Bagito.”
“Looking for Alaska” by John Green is the book I bring with me whenever I need something to read while having my nails done or while waiting for the doctor. Started reading it last year and until now, I haven’t finished. Unlike other books which if I haven’t read them for a long time I forget about them, “Looking for Alaska” is different because there’s something about the protagonist and his attachment to the girl named Alaska that invokes nostalgia and empathy.
Before going to sleep, I browse Lang Leav’s two poetry books, “Love & Misadventure” and “Lullabies”). My life revolves around writing scripts and deadlines that sometimes, my writing becomes technical so I turn to Lang Leav to stir my emotions and to remind me it’s different when you put your heart into your writing. So I make sure before sleeping, I read random poems by her. Her words are simple yet emotional. It hits the heart and everyone can relate.
Last Christmas, Direk Joey Reyes gave me two books and one of them was “365 Days of Wonder.” It’s a collection of one-liners, thoughts, words to live by, from famous people, songs, quotes of TV or movies, lines from books, different things. Every morning, I’d open the book and read what’s assigned on that day. It’s for GV (good vibes) in the morning. Instead of getting my phone and checking social-media sites (sometimes, early in the morning, all you get from your FB friends are rants and angst). Like for Jan. 20, it was “Have you had a kindness shown? Pass it on.” Then for Jan.21, “Don’t dream it, be it.” They are positive thoughts so early, and what a great start to the day.

“Fortune: The Greatest Business Decisions of all Time” (from the editors of Fortune Magazine); “Losing My Virginity” by Richard Branson; and “Sometimes You Win—Sometimes You Learn,” by John C. Maxwell and John Wooden.
Aside from me being a Richard Branson and John Maxwell fan, these books tell stories of having awesome attitude partnered with creative and analytical thinking that can be applied in different aspects of life, whether personal or career-wise.
