It looks like the pendulum swings in extremes for former action star Robin Padilla.
After being backing out of a role opposite former Japanese porn star Maria Ozawa in Nilalang, her first mainstream film in the Philippines, earlier in August, the actor made an announcement recently that he would no longer accept parts that involve kissing or love scenes.
Cue the tears and wailing from balconies. The man is finally girding his loins. Will we ever live vicariously through a Robin Padilla leading lady again?
During a contract signing with ABS-CBN, he reveals that during his discussions with network execs, he asks for only one thing: to play a family man. “Ako naman ang lagi kong pinapakiusap sa pamunuan ng ABS, ‘yung father and son or father and daughter [storylines] (For me, what I always ask the ABS heads for are father and son, or father and daughter storylines),” he relays.
As much as possible, says the actor, who is still at his prime at 46 years old, he wants to hold off on steamy onscreen scenes. “Sa mga leading lady strict ang parents ko, eh,” he jokes, though it is unclear if by “parents,” he means his management—or his wife Mariel Rodriguez, who’s developed quite the reputation for jealousy.
Hey, the guy earned the moniker of being the “Bad Boy” of showbiz in the ’90s for his many romantic dalliances (rivaled only by his love of firearms). Can we really blame the woman?
“Bawal na ang kissing scene. Family-oriented muna. Mas gusto ko muna ang family drama (Kissing scenes are now forbidden. Let’s keep it family-oriented. I’d prefer a family drama),” he adds.
Daniel Padilla, looks like it’s all up to you to uphold the family tradition of playing heartbreakers onscreen. Though from the looks of it, you’re off to a good start. Just go easy on that Kathryn Bernardo, eh? She looks sweet, but we bet she’s got claws, too.
