The Crown Spa at Crown Towers in City of Dreams Manila has been operational for two months now but was officially opened only this afternoon.
Its list of services and treatments incorporate products by the British company Aromatherapy Associates. What is notable is that the first type of massage listed in the spa menu is a “two-fold Hilot” treatment performed by two therapists. This distinctly Filipino massage treatment uses heated herbal leaves (tuba-tuba or jatropha instead of banana leaves), wooden sticks and herbal clay. Senior spa manager Amanda Ooi told Inquirer Lifestyle that the staff is trained to apply the clay on the feet to draw out the toxins, wait for it to dry before scraping it off using sticks in a massaging motion (dagdagay. The 90-minute treatment is priced at P5,800.
“We are probably the first spa to include the application of herbal clay in this traditional Filipino massage,” she said. Other treatments include invigorating hand, foot and full body massages lasting from 60 to 120 minutes.
The spa has six treatment rooms as well as two spacious spa suites with private showers and soaker tubs.
