On last week’s visit to Manila, famous author Kevin Kwan was feted at a welcome dinner in the beautiful home of Philip and Ching Cruz.
The select party of 40 guests was charmed by the Singapore-born American author who has entertained millions the world over with his books “Crazy Rich Asians” (which is being adapted to film) and “China Rich Girlfriend.”
Kwan was grateful to hear from his readers how they enjoyed his writing. Many shared that his books inspired them to start reading again.
He gladly answered some questions from the guests. One lady asked: “What’s the difference between old and nouveau riche?”
Kwan readily answered, “Discretion.”
Kwan went on to share how he’s fallen in love with the Philippines, its natural beauty, the food, and the Filipino people’s infectious happiness.
Before he started his whirlwind book tour, Kwan spent three days at Palawan’s Pangalusian Resort, which he said was one of the most beautiful places he’d ever been to.
The best parties always have unexpected moments and one of them was when the beautiful French-Filipino Emmanuelle Adda did a soulful rendition of French songs. Now she’s someone to watch out for!
The event was hosted by Ching Cruz, Dr. Z and Aivee Teo, Philippine Tatler and Chris Daez of Fully Booked, who invited the celebrated author to Manila.
Kevin came with friends Aaron Goldberg and David Sengali, who was documenting his trip to the Philippines. They had planned a packed agenda including a guest appearance on Karen Davila’s talk show, book signing, meet-and-greets and a send-off party at The Peninsula Manila’s Salon de Ning.
Kwan said, “I had the time of my life. I’m definitely coming back sooner than you think.”
