155 to 250 million: Estimated number of people from age 15 to 64 worldwide who used illicit substances at least once in 2008, according to the United Nations World Drug Report 2010.

181,400: Total area in hectares of opium poppy cultivation all over the world as of 2009, according to the same report.

865: Weight in metric tons (MT) of the estimated global cocaine production in 2008.  This was lower than the previous year’s 1,024 MT.

2.1: Percentage of the population who reportedly abused amphetamines in PH in 2008, according to the same UN report. This prevalence rate is one of the highest in Southeast Asia.

10,500+: Total number of persons arrested on drug-related incidents in PH in 2008.

22,000+: Number of people in jail nationwide because of drug-related cases as of February 2011, according to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.

10+: Number of treatments offered by The Meadow, a treatment center for addiction and trauma in Arizona, U.S.A.  This includes treatments for gambling addiction, alcohol addiction, drug addiction and sexual addiction.  Hollywood actor David Duchovny entered this rehab clinic for sex addiction in 2008.
