The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) is continuing this week its observance of National Arts Month with various festivals across the country and even online.
Para sa Sining will hold “Salin,” Feb. 20-23, at A Space Palet, Makati. It will conduct a series online forums on music, visual arts, dance, literature, theater and film. Established and emerging artists will take part. Culminating event will be collaborative, interactive performances.
University of the Philippines Los Baños’s Department of Humanities is holding throughout February the Philippine Cinema Centennial Lecture and Screening, a series of one-day lectures and screenings of landmark films.
The Mindanao leg will be on Feb. 20 at Surigao State College of Technology, Surigao City, Surigao del Norte.
The Altamarino-Clasio High School in Camarines Sur will hold Pili Arts Festival on Feb. 20-24. Activities include a four-day workshop on photography facilitated by Shalla Montero and on indie/documentary filmmaking by Riza Zuñiga, and the staging of a 15-minute play directed by Jec Guia.
Kuris Theater Fesival
Performance Laboratory and Teatrokon will hold the Kuris Theater Fesival on Feb. 22-25. There will be simultaneous theater performances, dramaturgy and play development workshops, and readings in Bacolod City and other places in Negros Occidental.
The University of the East-Recto will hold its own National Arts Month Celebration with “Ugnayan sa Sayaw” on Feb. 23. There will also be the Sininglangan Ball Pen Art Competition and performances of UE performing arts groups.
In Bais City, Negros Oriental, Mugna sa Pantawan will be held on Feb. 24. There will be an on-the-spot painting contest. Winners will represent the country in an art fest in South Korea.
Lahat Community Empowerment will hold PeacePond Art Festival Feb. 24-26 at Plastic Bottle Learning Center in Binalbagan, Negros Occidental. It will involve a series of activities on music (drum clinic), cinema (film screening), dramatic (teen acting workshop) and visual arts (art exhibit).
Bataan will hold its NAM celebration on Feb. 27-28 at Bataan Tourism Center.
‘Ugnayan sa Sayaw’
University of the East, through its Office of Cultural Affairs is holding an exhibit featuring the Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan (Gamaba) honorees, otherwise known as the National Living Treasures, up to Feb. 28 at the lobby of Dalupan Building in UE Manila.
Other NAM events: Ugnayan sa Sayaw, Feb 23, 2 p.m.; UE Elementary and Secondary Laboratory Schools’ musical play. “Doon Po sa Amin,” Feb. 24, 3 p.m.; and on-the-spot Sininglangan Ballpen Art Competition, March 3.
Ugnayan sa Sayaw dance fest will feature the following dance troupes: Lakandula High School Sining Lahi Dance Troupe, Mariano Marcos Memorial High School Dance Troupe, Ramon Magsaysay High School Salinlahi Dance Troupe, and Villamor High School Sanglahi Dance Troupe. The UE ESLS Siglang Galaw and the UE Silanganan Dance Troupe will also perform. —CONTRIBUTED
