As anyone may be aware by now, Japan is no stranger to audacious food and beverages. From dozens of Kit Kat flavors, to pizzas topped with cotton candy, the only limit is one’s imagination. The latest addition to this collection comes from Starbucks Japan and it pays homage to an American favorite.
The American Cherry Pie Frappuccino is something of a delight to behold. Its blend attempts to capture the flavor of an ice cream-topped baked cherry pie and even comes with a dome-shaped lid made from pie crust, reports RocketNews24.
To further emulate the feel of slicing into a freshly baked pie with a fork, the pie crust dome on the drink needs to be pierced by a plastic straw to get to the drink underneath.
Under the dome is a vanilla-flavored base sandwiched on the top and bottom with cherry compote. Add whipped cream and bite-sized pie pieces and you get the whole cherry-pie-eating experience in a cup.
A summer flavor in the form of the Classic Tea Cream Frappuccino was also announced. It’s a blend of Earl Grey, Ceylon and Malawi teas, topped with whipped cream and honey sauce. Honey sugar pieces have also been drizzled in for a sweet and richer flavor.
According to the Starbucks Japan website, the American Cherry Pie Frappuccino will be a limited edition flavor to be available between April 13 and May 16, for 640 yen (roughly P290). The Classic Tea Cream Frappuccino will go on sale between April 13 and August 8 for 570 yen (roughly P260). Alfred Bayle/JB
