A new story arc for the much-loved Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X) manga series is scheduled to launch an English version on Viz Media’s online Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, on September 4.

Titled “Rurouni Kenshin: Hokkaido Arc (Rurouni Kenshin, Meiji Kenkaku Romantan: Hokkaido-hen)” will debut in Japan in Shueisha’s Jump SQ magazine on the same date.

Initially scheduled for a spring release, the Hokkaido arc was delayed for summer, according to Anime News Network.

A two-chapter prologue called “Rurouni Kenshin Hokkaido-hen Jomaku: Ashitarō Zenka Ari” (Rurouni Kenshin Hokkaido Arc Prologue: The Criminal Ashitaro)” by Watsuki and Kaoru Kurosaki was published in Jump SQ between November and December 2016. An English version was published in December on Viz Media’s digital Weekly Shonen Jump.

The Hokkaido arc will be divided into five parts, where Kenshin will continue to be the protagonist.

“Rurouni Kenshin” began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1994. It follows the story of former swordsman, Kenshin Himura, as he battles remnants of a past era while longing for a simple and quiet life. The manga went on to be compiled into 28 volumes. It also inspired a 95-episode TV anime series, two original video animations, and a live-action film trilogy. Alfred Bayle/JB
