Just when you thought no other wedding could generate buzz this year, after that newsy Vicki Belo-Hayden Kho wedding, then came the invite to the 60th wedding anniversary celebration of Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile and his wife, Ambassador Cristina Ponce Enrile.
While it’s meant to be a private event today in their home and chapel in Makati, about 200 guests are expected. The evening will start with a Mass, followed by dinner.
It’s been a storied 60 years. Asked in a brief e-mail interview how she’d describe her 60-year marriage, Ms Ponce Enrile replied, “It has been good and sometimes not so good. In reality, I have had a good marriage in spite of many things.”
What’s her advice to couples who want their union to last this long?
“My advice would be to have a lot of patience through the blessings of our Lord. It is essential in any marriage.
“Patience and tolerance. You have to learn how tolerate many things in life. It’s not easy but you have to work on making it last.”
And to women who want to keep their men?
“That’s a very difficult question to answer since not all men are the same. Learn to be patient and gracious all the time. And always make time for your husband.”
But other than the Enriles’ lasting marriage, what should be interesting to see are the Who’s Who in politics and high society attending the celebration today.
