Ovens - what not to do with them | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

Ovens are essential appliances in our kitchens. It is used often, if not every day, not only by professional chefs but even casual home cooks. They can be used for baking, grilling, roasting, or even just reheating food. They are efficient and very easy to use that sometimes it is easy to forget that ovens can pose a risk if proper care and caution isn’t taken, so we have compiled a list of useful tips so you will know how to properly handle this appliance.

1. Don’t be messy.
It is important to keep your oven clean as grease and residue buildup from cooking can ignite and cause fires. Ignoring the mess will make it so much harder to clean afterwards, besides, they smell bad and aren’t really good for your health. So before you cook again, wipe everything clean and, if available, run the self-cleaning function of your oven.

2. Don’t line the bottom with foil.
Contrary to what others may say, lining the bottom of your oven with aluminum foil is not recommended to catch spills or food drippings. Foil reflects heat and may interfere with your oven’s efficiency. It can also block air flow which may cause serious problems like fire or carbon monoxide buildup. It is best to use a real pan or oven mat instead.

3. Don’t use spray cleaners.
Cleaning sprays may seem efficient but they have a tendency to get into the electrical components of your oven especially through the vents and around the knobs. Instead, it is best to just use a damp cloth and wipe them. For added safety, you can also use all-natural cleaners like lemon juice by simply mixing it to a cup of water which you heat for 30 minutes at 250 degrees and voila! your oven will look good and smell fresh.

These tips can make your kitchen a safer place; or better yet, make sure your oven is of excellent quality and has safety features to provide you with the best cooking experience. Thankfully, Tecnogas, the legendary Italian brand, has released a Tabletop Cooking Oven to make this possible.
