A Filipino in Maryland hit the local jackpot prize of $50,000 (around P2.7 million), thanks to numbers he got from the Philippines’ 6/58 Ultra Lotto.
Edgardo Antido, a 59-year-old butcher from Fort Washington, told Maryland lottery officials on Friday that he keeps track of drawings held in the Philippines, as he is an avid lottery player. He said he was watching a Filipino channel on television to find out results of the Ultra Lotto.
Upon seeing the results for the Oct. 9 drawing of the Ultra Lotto, he thought of using the same numbers to play Maryland’s Bonus Match 5. The winning combination from the UltraLotto was 3-12-16-36-38-46, but Antido only used the five numbers and left out the last.
“I was so shocked, I couldn’t sleep,” he said upon winning the lottery on Wednesday. He added that he was still dubious about his win, having double-checked the numbers. He even signed the back of his ticket to keep it safe.
Antido said he plans to spend his winnings by going on a vacation, while the remainder goes to the bank.
While Antido got lucky with the lottery, Filipinos are still hopeful one of them will claim the Ultra Lotto prize, now at P1.1-billion—the country’s largest lotto jackpot. /ra
