Dresses can make history. Jennifer Lopez and Donatella Versace just gave homage to “The Dress” which broke Google Images even before it was fully conceived. One can alway draw up a mental photo of Björk‘s swan dress at the 2001 Academy Awards anytime one talks about the bird-inspired creation.

There are also dresses that seem to reincarnate, regardless of the trend. They find life in a slightly altered way on various celebrities, on different occasions. It’s as if they manage to materialize out of nowhere, proving that its style is perhaps something truly magical. These dresses alway carry a meaning in them, growing with each new wearer.

I give you the Paris Hilton dress. You know it: It’s that sparkly number which hardly leaves anything to the imagination. It heralds the glitz of the 2000s with Mario Testino glamour shots and Juicy Couture jumpsuits.

The chain-mail dress by Julien McDonald inspired a lot of party looks since then. It found life when Paris re-wore it in 2017.

The ghost of the dress imbibed a bit of itself at the MET Gala through Jennifer Lopez.

And now at the Golden Globes, the dress has evolved via Saoirse Ronan. For this 2020 edition of the awards ceremony, Saoirse showed up in this Celine piece which has the vibes Paris Iconic Dress all over it.

Call this version the Paris Iconic Dress All Grown Up. It still has that flimsy neckline and since this is the red carpet, the length was only needed but, of course, without the daring slit.

It is a departure from Saoirse’s usual style but the “Little Women” star is apparently a fan of Hedi Slimane. Stylist and editor Elizabeth Saltzman shared to British ‘Vogue‘ that Saoirse love the brand under the new director “She talks about the brand so much, I had to listen to her.”

The custom piece is described as “a 1970s barely-there cowl-neck slip dress.” Saltzman also shared, “We wanted to celebrate Saoirse’s femininity, while being powerful and a little bit sexy.”
