Actress Iza Calzado is not about to make another teleserye when her latest soap opera, “Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin” of the Kapamilya Channel winds up.
“Kung teleserye po, right away, parang mahirap din naman,” she said during the online press conference for the series, last Friday, Nov. 6. (If it would be a teleserye right away, that would be hard.)
“Kung ganito pa rin ang ating sitwasyon ngayon (If our situation remains the same), I would like to give others a chance to shine also because work is limited nowadays,” she explained.
“We have been fortunate to be blessed with this job, two seasons. I think that’s one of the things we realized. How many projects do you need to take on, ‘di ba (right)? I don’t want to be greedy in that sense.”
Calzado revealed that there are two projects waiting for her availability.
“Having said that, I have to finish two other things after this. Immediately, I have to jump to two other things. Pero hindi po teleserye (but these are not teleseryes),” she said.
Aside from wanting to give other actresses a chance to take on teleserye roles, she said she also needs a breather before doing another teleserye role.
“Kung teleserye ang tatanungin ninyo, gusto kong bigyan ng pagkakataon na gumawa ‘yung iba ng teleserye din. At sa tamang pagkakataon na siguro ready na rin ako at napagpag ko na rin nang todo si Ellice, bakit hindi?” she said.
(If you’ll ask about soap operas, I want to give others a chance to do a soap opera. And in the right time, when I am ready and have been able to shake off the character of Ellice, why not?)
Calzado believes that her and Jodi Sta. Maria’s characters in the series have already been well established now to lead to book two of the series.
“It’s all in the writing. It’s also all in the direction, the guidance of our directors,” she said about why she and Sta. Maria are effective in playing their characters.
“Na-establish na kasi. At this point, bong-buo na ang characters namin. So, talagang naiintindihan na namin. Ito na ang climax ng story to end season one,” she explained.
(It has already been established. At this point, our characters are now fully developed. So, we really already understand them. This is now the climax of the story to end season one.)
Calzado herself has a tight grip on her Ellice Ceñidoza-Villarosa character, as she’s doing it almost everyday.
“Madalas sume-segue pa kami dati. Minsan, sa totoo lang, litu-lito ka. With this one, tutok na tutok kami sa aming mga characters,” she related.
(Frequently, we used to segue [to other projects before]. Actually, sometimes, [that causes] you [to] get confused. With this one, we are so focused on our characters.)
Calzado also credits Sta. Maria as a reason for her being able to perform the role of Ellice.
“Again, I will say this again, I am able to sustain it because I have an amazing scene partner or my arch nemesis here,” she said. “Pinaghuhugutan ko siya ng lakas din at ng inspirasyon sa mga eksena ko.” (I draw my strength and inspiration from her for my scenes.) JB
