“All that counts is that, for this day, for this session, I have overcome resistance.” —Steven Pressfield

Keep flowing through all the highs and lows of life, and you will find yourself conquering any resistance that hinders growth and fulfillment. By not dwelling too much on what is in the past, we are able to be more aware of the present situation, and what exactly are the best next steps we need to take to move forward. There may be rules, systems and social norms to follow, but focusing on living a more meaningful life is the key.

What exactly do we mean when we say resistance? It is any force that prevents us from attaining our best self. We must always push on. From doing our best work, to taking risks, to overcoming challenges, to learning from mistakes—we should be in constant pursuit of something greater in order to fulfill our earthly purpose.

American author Steven Pressfield shares many helpful tips to conquer resistance In the book “The War of Art.” Resistance may creep up at work, but with the proper steps, issues are more controllable. I think I have been procrastinating lately about launching my digital site, but reading this book has convinced me that only I can truly be the one to push my life forward in the direction that I want it to go.

By putting ourselves in a mindset of pursuit, we are better able to take little steps every day, which, in the long run, turn out to be the greatest strides we ever make. It helps to make to-do lists, to keep reminders close by and to journal our manifestations so we get a clearer picture of what goals we want to achieve. As I wrote down my dreams for my digital launch, I visualized the kind of connections I wanted to form with my audience, and even brainstormed episode ideas.

The importance of sleep

One episode will be dedicated to the art of comfortable slumber. Sleep is one of the most important factors in our life that can make or break our entire day. Ever wake up on the wrong side of the bed? With Uratex Philippines’ launch of the Senso Memory Frost (Available at Uratex showrooms and retail stores nationwide; uratex.com.ph; Shopee and Lazada), that is almost impossible! Their newest product introduces a cooler sleeping experience for Filipinos, thanks to DuoFrost Technology, which is a first in the country. It will surely be a staple in everyone’s bedrooms once they feel the difference of getting a good night’s cool sleep.

Uratex celebrated the release through an experiential event they called “A Dreamland of Ice,” where guests like Cheska and Doug Kramer, Alyssa Valdez, Verniece Enciso and myself were able to experience just what this technology offers: an icy yet cozy and relaxing environment.

I was also able to catch up with Uratex’s Bigboy Cheng and his family. The afternoon started with an inspiring message from Uratex brand ambassador Heart Evangelista. I was quite amazed at how Uratex came up with such a sensory event where everyone could get an overall feel of the whole Senso Memory Frost collection. From the 3D projection display of the northern lights, to the smallest details like the iceberg installations, these elements elevated this icy experience as we witnessed the grand reveal of the Sensory Memory Frost onstage.

I even got to try out the Senso Memory Frost mattress in the showroom, and the cool sensation made me eager to sleep soundly on my newly purchased foams! I also enjoyed creating my own room and linen sprays during the aromatherapy workshop care of Munimuni Handcrafted. I was so excited to try them once I got home so I could sleep better and soundly at night. Now I know what to get my loved ones this Christmas! I also got to meet new people and have interesting conversations with them, which made this experience all the more amazing and memorable.

The Senso Memory Frost Mattress comes in aqua blue and white with blue gray side panels. They also have the Senso Memory Frost Mattress topper and the Senso Memory Frost pillow. All products from the Senso Memory Frost Collection come with a 10-year warranty for guaranteed quality and durability. Get the coolest sleep you deserve with the Senso Memory Frost premium mattresses, pillows and mattress toppers now while they’re still on sale! You can get up to 30-percent discount for a limited-time offer.

Winter wonderland in Manila

It is truly winter wonderland here in Manila as the holidays roll in! The next day after Uratex’s icy occasion, I attended Jo Malone London’s snowy cocktail evening at Whitespace Manila as they introduced this year’s Christmas collection. I even wore the same gown by Ronald Enrico because it just fit the vibe so perfectly!

Jo Malone London’s team transformed Whitespace, filling the room with snowballs and snowmen to help bring to life the Christmas Snow theme. Saxophonist Mike Guevarra serenaded guests as they walked into the snow-filled room.

Guests were allowed to discover the different scented gifts and this year’s Scent of the Season: White Moss & Snowdrop, which captured the iridescent freshness of snowdrop petals and forest moss under winter sunlight.

Other festive fragrances were reintroduced: Orange Bitters, a tangy woody-citrus inspired by a delicious winter cocktail and Midnight Musk Amber, ready to revel with sensual midnight musk and the glowing warmth of amber (Christmas collection available at Jo Malone London boutiques; Lazada).

Jo Malone London stylists assisted guests in discovering unique scent pairing combinations with the holiday scents and learned how to come up with curated sets with the signature scents for their gifting needs.

Jo Malone’s brand general manager Camille Oloan welcomed guests and thanked them for all their support for the brand throughout the year. A custom and delicious cocktail menu inspired by the scents was served by Cibo di Marghi.

Dressing to the hilt

That same day, fashion designer Rosanna Ocampo-Rodriguez launched her 2022 holiday collection entitled “Paris Cha Cha’’ (Collection available at Powerplant Mall; rosannaocampo.com) at Gallery by Chele, Bonifacio Global City. An extrovert and an avid traveler, Rosanna showcased how to “dress to the hilt” and keep your personality with her pieces. She dressed 13 celebrities with pieces from the “Paris Cha Cha” holiday collection.

Actresses Iza Calzado and Sam Pinto-Semerad, fashion stylist Liz Uy, model Issa Pressman, Instagram stars and models Patricia Henson and Mikaela Martinez, lifestyle journalist Marie Lozano, brand ambassadors Janeena Chan and Kelly Misa-Fernandez, Samantha Belle and Alexandra Rocha-Araneta were all in attendance.

Not only was it a launch of a new collection from the Rosanna Ocampo brand, but it was also a celebration of possibilities. Now that we have adjusted and made the new normal our every day, we are back and fearless. With her eye-catching pieces and vibrant personality, Rosanna continues to show how self-growth and innovation are the way forward, and she leads by example on how to avoid being stagnant and stuck in our bubble of comfort.

Witnessing the launch of all these huge projects was so inspiring. While it often takes a whole team to make a dream come true, it is also a fact that each and every member must take responsibility for their personal duties.

Whether you work on your own or within a team, there is always the ever-present need for reliability and consistency. We all need to cultivate the ability to motivate our own selves, even if it means pushing past the discomfort of resistance and overcoming the desire to laze around.

There’s work to be done and the roads may be uphill—but just remember that the hardest journeys offer the sweetest rewards.
