Not all oils are created equal. Some you use for food for flavor, while some you use for everyday cooking. But even the oil that you use every day should be given more thought because you and your family’s health are at stake.
Forget about trends when it comes to oil. There are two things that you should consider when choosing the oil from the supermarket shelves. They are fat composition and smoke point. Saturated fats raise LDL cholesterol which makes it bad for the heart. Unsaturated fats are good fats and necessary to make the body function.
Smoke point is the temperature at which oils begin to break down, causing it to smoke. Some reports say that when oil starts to smoke, it is considered unhealthy and should be thrown away.
“Smoke point produces chemicals which may be harmful to health, so it is important to choose a cooking oil which has a high smoke point. Canola oil has a high smoke point which makes it good for high-heat cooking, like frying,” nutritionist-dietitian April Manlangit said.
Edible oil is oil obtained from plants. Canola oil comes from crushed seeds of the canola plant. Once oil is extracted it is further refined and bottled. Canola is an all-rounder. You can use it for sauteing, frying, salad dressing and baking.
Christine Alcantara, also a nutritionist-dietitian, emphasized that canola is not only good for frying.
Because of its minimal taste, the full flavors of food come out. For baking, canola oil is a better, healthier alternative to butter. Do note that as a rule of thumb, one cup of butter is equivalent to 3/4 cup of canola oil.
No. 1 for 11 years
Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil has been the leading canola brand in the Philippines for 11 years. It is trusted and recommended by nutritionist-dietitians, cardiologists and moms who care about their families’ health.
The brand emphasizes its consistent high quality. It remains in its liquid state even in air-conditioned rooms. This shows that it is low in saturated fats or bad fats. On the practical side, it doesn’t clump up making it easy to pour each time.
Jolly Heart Mate is free from cholesterol and trans fat. It contains monounsaturated fat or good fat that helps lower bad cholesterol levels in the body. Alcantara said that canola has the lowest level of saturated fats among all types of cooking oil.
“Canola Oil has Omega-3 and Omega-6 which help lower cholesterol and blood pressure,” said nutritionist-dietitian Thina Asis in a press release. Omega fatty acids are good for the heart.
The consistent quality of Jolly Heart Canola Oil earns the brand its loyal following from real people.
Sheh Lizano, a 48-year-old mom of four, uses Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil because hypertension and heart failure run in the family.
“Ayaw kong manahin ng mga anak ko ang mga sakit na ‘yun, kasi gusto ko rin ma-enjoy nila ang happy life,” Lizano said. Initially, she did her best to avoid fried food. But those who cook know that it is better to find a healthier alternative than avoiding things altogether. Lizano said that she’s been using Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil every day when she found out that it is good for the heart.
Everybody’s choice
Mommy Grace Escueta said that she’s conscious of the ingredients that she uses. Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil is a staple in her kitchen because she’s very meticulous of what she uses for cooking for her family.
It is also the canola oil of choice of celebrity mom and wife Carmina Villarroel.
“Para sa akin, Jolly Heart Mate lang talaga in cooking meals for my family. Sigurado ako sa quality and I’m sure that when I cook, ‘di ko lang napapasaya ang mga puso nila, na-proprotektahan ko pa,” Villarroel said. “Why should you settle when you can choose the best?”
But Villarroel is not the only cook in the family. Her husband also likes to cook. Zoren Legaspi said, “Mahilig din ako magluto and when I cook, I only trust the number one, Jolly Heart Mate.”
Their twins Mavy and Cassy reveal that they too have been making meals on their own. Naturally, they use the brand that their parents trust.
“Heart Mate lang ang cooking oil sa kusina namin,” Mavy said.
“Heart Mate for Life kaming pamilya,” Cassy added.
The verdict is out. Nutritionist-dietitians, homemakers and even celebrity families choose good health. They choose the no. 1. They choose Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil.
