Britney Spears and her husband Sam Asghari have separated ways, amidst allegations of infidelity and intense conflicts
Their separation comes after heated disputes stemming from accusations of cheating. Asghari filed a divorce petition on Wednesday, August 16, citing “irreconcilable differences.” This follows rumors of marital struggles, from accusations of the pop star having a relationship outside their marriage, along with reports of Britney getting physical with Sam— from giving him a black eye in his sleep to engaging in “frequent screaming matches.”
In the legal filing, Asghari asked for Spears for spousal support and coverage of legal expenses, stating he “has yet to determine the full nature and extent of the separate property assets and obligations of each party. Spears, who earned her right to fame in the nineties, is estimated to be worth roughly $60 million after releasing her iconic debut album Baby One More Time.
However, with a prenuptial agreement in place, Britney’s financial assets appeared immune to negotiation. Yet, according to reports, Asghari has allegedly threatened the prospect of exposing deeply embarrassing information about Spears if the prenup isn’t revisited. In response, Spears has enlisted renowned celebrity divorce lawyer Laura Wasser and will continue to work with her powerhouse attorney, Mathew Rosengart, a former federal prosecutor who famously helped her break free from the conservatorship.
The day following the filing for divorce, Asghari posted a statement on his social media: “After 6 years of love and commitment to each other my wife and I have decided to end our journey together. We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always. Shit happens.”
The pair met on the set of her 2016 music video for “Slumber Party,” while playing her love interest before getting engaged in September 2021. The two held a storybook-like wedding complete with a horse-drawn carriage in their home outside Los Angeles in June last year—only a month after the couple announced that they had lost a child early in her pregnancy.
Asghari is Spears’s third husband, after Kevin Federline, whom she was married to from 2004 to 2007. Her first marriage was in 2004 to Jason Allen Alexander who was a childhood friend and only lasted less than 72 hours.
