I love anything coral, whether it’s jewelry, fashion or home décor. On a recent trip to Italy, well-known for its coral jewelry, I marveled at the exquisite pieces for sale in the antique shops.

In particular, I wanted to take home a breathtaking 18th-century Trapani coral multi-cameo necklace that was so beautiful and rare. Alas, it cost way beyond what I could afford, and I walked away from that shop on Via Giulia empty-handed.

To put me in better spirits, I focused on spending more time in the museums to admire the finest pieces of jewelry and objets de vertu. On a visit to the Museo del Tesoro in Assisi, I marveled at the abundance of ecclesiastical objects so magnificent in their rarity, beauty and detail, many of which were inlaid with coral.

Fortunately, coral is a big trend this season, and from Chanel’s coral-heeled sandals to Alexander McQueen’s coral-inspired clutches, choices abound for those who want their look to have a striking element.
