Tonight, Oct. 28, at XX XX from 9pm onwards, two record labels, one local and one Japanese will come together for a cultural exchange brought by the Japan Foundation Asia Center for tech-arts festival WSK AXIS Festival 2017. Priced at P350, witness eight artists, four from BuwanBuwan Collective and four from Maltine Records perform a live discourse of cross-pollination in “x-pol – Buwan Buwan x Maltine.”
To hype you up for the one-of-a-kind gig, here’s a taste of what to expect from the artists.
From Japan
TORIENA
TORIENA is what you might call a Game Boy musician. Making music out of her Game Boy or chiptune since 2012, within the first year of debuting, she’s won the “Best New Artist Award” at the World Wide Chiptune Awards 2013, and also has record label MADMILKY RECORDS under her belt.
PARKGOLF
From the snowy lands of Sapporo, Hokkaido, PARKGOLF a.k.a. Reo Bane’s solo project is all about colorful, flowery feel-good up-tempo pop beats. His lush wonky off-meter rhythms are perfect for dancing.
Pa’s Lam System
Masked DJ trio Pa’s Lam System knows no limits. Playing fast-paced spasmic beats that pique their interests, they’re not afraid to experiment with typically untouched genres like jersey club and future bass.
TOMAD
Founder of online record label Maltine Records Tomad, now 27 years old, is welcoming the 12th anniversary of the label that he began at 15 years old. His label currently holds an impressive number of 100 artists and 160 releases.
From the Philippines
Moon Mask
Well acquainted with the Japanese music scene, Moon Mask (formerly known as Ulzzang Pistol) sings East Asian pop-culture-infused dreamy electronic music in English, Cantonese, Korean, Tagalog, and Japanese.
Meshua
The anonymous custom fox-masked dance music producer Meh Shua a.k.a Meshua plays Japanese pop culture-inspired beats composed of kawaii chord breaks, future bass licks with hints of math electro and hardcore. Fun fact: His name means “Lord.”
Nights of Rizal
Migi de Belen’s post-disco slash chillwave solo electronic project Nights of Rizal is comprised of up-beat bedroom dance tunes that all began in 2007, inspired by his then three Malaysian roommates, while he was studying abroad in London.
Similarobjects
One of the many founders of BuwanBuwan Collective, Similarobjects is a sound artist, DJ, producer, and electronic music educator, who is inspired by polystylism, spirituality, esotericism, technology, videogames, and art.
