OCTOBER 27, 2022

Hey filmmakers around Calabarzon, it’s time to get your stories out there. The 10th edition of Pelikultura: The Calabarzon Film Festival is here and they’re looking for entries. Interested participants can enter three categories: Special Exhibition films, #BuhayElbi Competition, and their new category, Southern Tagalog Shorts.

Pelikultura has been consistently providing opportunities for young filmmakers around Luzon. From workshops to film screenings, they’ve been showcasing digital narratives for around a decade now; giving platforms to budding and experienced filmmakers alike.

If you’re wondering what kind of film Pelikultura curates, check out ‘Kontrolado ni Girly ang Buhay Niya’ by Gilb Beldoza. This queer coming-of-age short film was one of the festival’s finalists. In the same year, it won the 15th Cinemalaya Film Festival. Set in San Mateo, Rizal, the film follows a young gay teenager seeking a bright future in the city.

The film had its first public screening at Pelikultura, among other shorts such as Kathlene Rae’s ‘.Raw’ (Cavite), Hazel Gadiaza’s ‘Micko.Minekaniko’ (Laguna), and Maria Victoria Serrano’s ‘Secret Menu’ (Batangas) among other entries. It’s always an array of unique narratives across Luzon, from familiar experiences to even surreal ones. So on their 10th year, why not place your own story among diverse storytellers?
