Gucci is taking us to the 22nd century with none other than Doraemon.
On Jan. 12, the Italian fashion house honored Fujiko Fujio’s iconic robo-cat as part of its Cruise 2021 collection. Expect over 50 items in the Doraemon x Gucci collab, ranging from coats and track pants to sneaks and products filled with childlike playfulness and the fashion house’s iconic baroque luxury style.
“The collection comprises everything from knitwear to tambourine-shaped bags, tracksuits and even sneakers, bucket hats and silk scarves,” writes WWD, adding that Gucci will release a second drop of this collab. For Doraemon x Gucci phase two, they plan to create a capsule in line with the Year of the Ox for the upcoming Chinese New Year.
The Doraemon x Gucci lookbook goes a little bit out of the box too. With photographer Angelo Pennetta behind the lens, we see usually straight-faced Gucci models replacing Nobita as Doraemon’s companion in the meantime.
Expect the entire capsule drop to launch on Jan. 20. If y’all have the dough, unlike me, items from this collection are priced from P9,086.27 to P257,252.00. Guess I’ll stick to bootleg anime con merch for now.
Peep the lookbook below. Oh, and Doraemon—welcome to the Gucci gang.
