Going to F2F classes? Students can avail of free LRT-2 rides - SCOUT

OCTOBER 27, 2022

Face-to-face classes are getting a comeback this 2022, and so is the need to budget a daily student allowance. But here’s some good news for the commuting folks: You can now avail of free Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) rides beginning this month.

As part of the current “Libreng Sakay” program, Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) Administrator Hernando Cabrera announced Wednesday that student LRT-2 passengers can ride for free starting Aug. 22 until Nov. 5 to help them in attending IRL classes, Philippine News Agency reports.

All you need to present is your school ID card or proof of enrollment to the passenger assistance center. Cabrera also advised everyone to continue following safety protocols and avoid bringing deadly weapons.

After the free trip rollout, a 20% student discount on fares will be implemented, Cabrera said.

Originally, free train fares for students were approved across three train lines: the LRT-2, Metro Rail Transit-3, and Philippine National Railway. This was submitted by the Department of Transportation to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for approval. We’ll still have to wait and see if the original plan will be followed.

Last month, the Department of Education (DepEd) ordered all private and public schools to transition to five days of face-to-face classes by Nov. 2. Schools are not allowed to operate in distance or blended learning setups from that day forward.
