Things we miss in quarantine (among other more important things): short grocery lines for quick snack runs and Claire Saffitz’s “Gourmet Makes” (though reruns are available on the Bon Appétit YouTube channel, I wonder how she will fare with the added anxiety of isolation on top of her “gourmet” frustrations), through which we can somehow “try” to recreate said snacks.
We’ve found the next best thing to remedy both: Modern izakaya 12/10’s newest addition to their takeout menu: shortbread bar, popularly known as “faux Twix” (but for the sake of this article and in honor of Claire Saffitz—who has an upcoming dessert cookbook(!)—we’ll call it what it is: gourmet (pause) Twix).

Available through 12/10’s online store for pick-up and customer-arranged courier service, the shortbread bar elevates the popular candy/cookie bar by using 60 percent dark chocolate and dulce de leche in the place of milk chocolate and caramel.
“Now for my favorite part: reading the ingredients.”
Flour, sugar, butter, sweetened milk, 60 percent dark chocolate—that’s it, so you know this is legit, no preservatives whatsoever.
And for more gourmet points, 12/10 suggests having it with a pinch of sea salt.
Place your orders through 12/10’s online store. Pick up at 7635 Guijo St., San Antonio Village, Makati.
