Katseye, Red Velvet, Lisa lead this week’s K-pop girl group releases

OCTOBER 27, 2022

It’s a big week for us K-pop GG stans. Time to get streaming!

This week is for the Girl (group)’s Girl, because we just got three major acts dropping much-anticipated singles.

First off is the official first single of the global girl group Katseye, who, after winning the Hybe and Geffen collab idol search competition “Dream Academy” in 2023, is finally releasing “Debut.”

The six members—Sophia (Philippines), Lara (US), Daniela (US), Yoonchae (South Korea), Megan (US), and Manon (Switzerland)—showcase strong dance moves in the upbeat track’s dynamic music video.

Katseye is set to release another single in July, followed by their official debut EP entitled “SIS (Soft Is Strong) on Aug. 16.

Meanwhile, the multi-awarded girl group Red Velvet released their 10th anniversary album, “Cosmic,” with a lead single of the same name last June 24.

The music video, featuring members Seulgi, Wendy, Yeri, Joy, and Irene, takes inspiration from the 2019 horror film “Midsommar.” The film’s dark, cult theme alongside dreamy visuals of green fields, floral crowns, and lace dresses lend well to Red Velvet’s own dual concept.

While the comeback has been plagued with issues, from the alleged insufficient promotions from SM Entertainment to the members’ own frustrations over creative choices for the music video, the album appears to be performing well, with reports saying it has sold only a few thousand less than their last single “Chill Kill” despite the rushed release timeline.

Red Velvet will be making their return to Manila for a fan concert in September.

Blackpink’s Lisa also just dropped her latest solo single, “Rockstar,” today. It’s her first release under her own label, Lloud, and her third single overall, after her 2021 releases “Lalisa” and “Money.”

In “Rockstar,” Lisa showcases what she’s known for best—her strong dance moves and sharp rapping skills—in the cinematic music video shot in the streets of Bangkok’s iconic Chinatown.

Lisa co-wrote the song with Ryan Tedder, Sam Homaee, Lucy Healey, James Essien, and Brittany Amaradio.
