The Singaporean embassy marked both the 59th National Day of Singapore and 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Singapore and the Philippines on Sept. 3 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel. Though usually celebrated in August, the event took place in early September due to a busy month filled with important events, including a state visit by Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
Ambassador Constance See emphasized the strong and multifaceted partnership between the two nations, founded on mutual trust and respect. Over the years, Singapore and the Philippines have collaborated across various sectors, including trade, defense, education, and culture. Recent high-level exchanges have further deepened these ties.
Looking ahead, the partnership is set to strengthen through the exchange of key Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) in areas such as carbon credits and healthcare worker training, underscoring a shared commitment to addressing pressing global challenges.
As Singapore approaches its 60th year as a nation, optimism prevails, reinforced by the enduring friendship with the Philippines and a shared vision for a prosperous and inclusive future. —CONTRIBUTED
