Celebrating 10 years in the theater industry, “Gab Pangilinan in Concert: This is Not a Musical” features the theater actress as she revisits the songs that marked and shaped her career
This might “not” be a musical, but this concert is very much all about it. Gab Pangilinan’s first solo concert, happening on Feb. 14 and 15 at the Maybank Performing Arts Theater, features the theater star as she looks back and celebrates her 10 years in the industry.
The past decade has seen Pangilinan take on a number of beloved roles, such as Joy in “Ang Huling El Bimbo” and Roxane in “Mula sa Buwan” as well as Cathy, a dream role of hers, in “The Last Five Years.”
And just last year, we already saw her take on more out-of-the-box projects and characters, such as a dual (and even gender-bent) role in “Pingkian: Isang Musikal,” and even a non-musical, in CAST’s “Othello.”
This time, Pangilinan embraces yet another facet of her artistry as she showcases her talent for storytelling on a new stage: that is, through a solo concert.
The show’s title is a cheeky joke Pangilinan thought of in response to all the questions she gets about what show she’s doing next.
In “This is Not a Musical,” Pangilinan is set to serenade audiences with the songs that have shaped her and her career. Audiences will also get to hear songs that have defined her as an actress, especially the characters many have gotten to know her as, along with her own personal favorite characters. The concert will also feature people who have been significant to her theater journey so far. The show will be written and directed by Mikko Angeles, with musical direction by Rony Fortich, and choreography in collaboration with Made To Dance.
Originally a one-night-only affair, “Gab Pangilinan in Concert: This is Not a Musical” is extending for one more night. Tickets to the Feb. 15 show will be available starting 12 a.m. on Jan. 31.
