SLEx extension can cut travel time to Quezon to around 45 minutes | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

A new tollroad spanning 66.74 kilometers broke ground yesterday, Mar. 26. It will be part of the South Luzon Expressway (SLEx), and will be called Toll Road 4 or TR4.

The expressway is being constructed by San Miguel Corp. (SMC) and South Luzon Tollway Corp.

The new TR4, once completed, will run from Alabang to Santo Tomas, Batangas, to Brgy. Mayao in Lucena, Quezon, according to a report by Inquirer. This new road will also help cut travel time from Batangas to Quezon from the current three hours down to around 45 minutes.

Ramon Ang, president and chief operating officer of SMC, also notes that the TR4 will “bolster economic development in Laguna, Batangas, Quezon, and the Bicol region. We believe that the TR4 will further unlock the economic potential and promote tourism [in these areas].”

There will be six sections to TR4:

  • Santo Tomas, Batangas to Makban, Laguna – 11.32 km
  • Makban to San Pablo City – 12.75 km
  • San Pablo City to Tiaong, Quezon – 7.5 km
  • Tiaong to Candelaria – 15 km
  • Candelaria to Tayabas – 10.21 km
  • Tayabas to Lucena – 9.96 km

Once completed (Department of Public Works and Highways pegs the project to be completed in three years), getting to and exploring local destinations will be much easier.
