SB19 on their new album and why “Go Up” is so important | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

Talking to SB19 about their debut album is a win for me. Like every member of A’TIN out there, it was hard not to be proud of this P-pop group’s continuous growth. They’ve shattered international Billboard charts and made P-pop a genre to watch out for.

So when we got the chance to virtually sit down with the SB19 boys, we had a lot of questions in mind. But one thing we were really curious about was what their debut album really meant for them?

Apparently, the boys saw the record as a culmination of their journey.

“’Yung debut album namin is really about the journey of SB19,” says Sejun in a virtual press interview. On their album, they want to reflect on their growth; from the brashy boom of “Go Up” leading up to their present achievements. They’re also hyped on letting fans and new listeners alike hear unreleased tracks. For Sejun, he wants the world to feel his love for their track “Hanggang sa Huli.”

“Among all the songs that we’ll be releasing, ito po para sa akin ‘yung may mga pinakamagandang lyrics na naisulat namin as a group,” he explains. “Dito niyo rin po makikita ‘yung pagkahilig nating mga Pinoy sa sad songs. Isipin niyo po teleserye OST ang mga dating.”

Although we’re all looking forward to their debut album, we still have to pay homage to the track that made them literally “go up.” We couldn’t help but wonder if they expected that track to blow up the way it did.

It turns out they didn’t. At least, what they hoped for was to get their name out there. “Nag-e-expect po kami pero hindi ganoon kalaki,” says Stell.

The boys also share how the track became their redemption song. Like their album, this track says a lot about their journey and how hard they trained to get to where they are. “We’re hoping and praying for that song to blow up, kasi para sa amin iyon po talaga ‘yung redemption song namin,” says Sejun. “Before we released that song, nag-usap-usap kami na if hindi gumana ‘yung song, we would be splitting up kasi sobrang tagal na po naming nag-tra-train na wala rin kaming kinikita. ’Yung nag-blow up siya sobrang saya namin dahil na-answer ang prayers namin.”
