Next up for Lorde: a 100-page book on Antarctica - SCOUT

I know, I know—you’ve all had it with the Lorde and savior stringing you along with album number three. But finally, here’s some good (and verified) news: Lorde’s finally dropping something. But it isn’t exactly an album.

Back in 2019, Ms. Ella and friend Harriet Were went on a soul-searching trip to Antarctica alongside government agency Antarctica New Zealand. Things had been pretty low-key for the Kiwi singer since then but today, Lorde broke the news that she’s releasing a book covering her trip.

The book, titled “Going South,” will be a 100-page collection featuring photos and writings from her visit to Antarctica.

“[Antarctica] has fascinated me since I was old enough to read,” Lorde writes in her newsletter. “It started to interest me again in recent years as my environmental awareness went up and up, and questions about how to change my personal and professional footprints on this Earth occupied much of my time.”

She adds, “I thought it was only right to make them into a little catalogue-style book, alongside a piece of writing I did about my experience on the frozen continent.”

While it isn’t the follow-up to 2017’s “Melodrama” that stans have been hoping for, the singer calls it a “perfect precursor” to the anticipated third album. “It’s a cool little piece of the Lorde cinematic universe for you to own if you’d like to.”

“Antarctica really acted as this great white palette cleanser, a sort of celestial foyer I had to move through in order to start making the next thing,” she writes. “In the plane coming down to land, I had this very intense bolt-of-lightning thought, which in all its eloquence was literally ‘DON’T MAKE SHIT RECORDS.’”

Priced at $29.99 (around P1,442), “Going South” is already available for pre-order and will be shipped out by mid-February 2021. All net proceeds will go towards a scholarship fund for Antarctica New Zealand’s climate change research. Lorde also announced that the first 500 copies ordered will come with signed postcards.

Two months ago, Lorde promised that her next drop’s definitely coming—if Kiwi fans voted, that is.
