When Kim Kardashian was 14, her father bought her makeup lessons at the Joe Blasco Makeup Artist Training Center Hollywood. Joe Blasco is a huge deal in Hollywood—having done the makeup of Marlene Dietrich, Lauren Bacall, and David Bowie. So when Marie Claire decided to take the very same lessons Kim did when she was an adolescent, they also answered life’s little mysteries: Is the signature Kardashian method of contouring the same as Blasco’s? Some of us may recognize Australian model Nicole Trunfio as Naomi Campbell’s co-mentor on hit TV show The Face, but many may not be aware of her new role as a mother. So when the special subscriber edition of Elle Australia was released featuring Nicole breastfeeding her son Zion, the model was thrilled, but also a tad defensive on her Instagram: “The last thing I want to do is be controversial, so please take this for what it is, let us #normalizebreastfeeding there is nothing worse than a mother that is judged for feeding her hungry child in public.” Elle, on the hand, clarified that the candid breastfeeding shot was not a “contrived situation.” [Elle]

Azzedine Alaïa launches first fragrance

For a fashion designer who has been around since the ’80s, it’s surprising that a signature fragrance has never been released until now. Perfumes, like handbags and eyewear, are an easy way for a designer to cash in, which is probably why Azzedine Alaïa took his time with Alaïa Paris. Having always done things at his own pace, the Tunisian designer has stayed relevant, never needing to strike while the iron was hot because, well, an Alaïa creation has always been “hot.” [WWD]

Comedienne Melissa McCarthy went on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to talk about an encounter she had with a journalist who claimed she was only a good actress when she looked “attractive,” which she didn’t in her latest film Tammy. When granted with the opportunity to confront him, instead of being defensive, she sets him straight: “Just know that every time you write stuff, every young girl in this country reads that and gets chipped away at.” [The Cut]

L’Oreal to print human skin for testing

Last week, we reported on the future of using 3D printers to create your own cosmetics or even apply makeup for you. In continuing their efforts against animal testing, cosmetics conglomerate L’Oreal is partnering with bioprinting start-up Organovo to create 3D-printed human skin. Since the ’80s, L’Oreal has created its own skin samples for testing using human tissue donated by plastic surgeons, but the process is tedious. In partnership with Organovo, they hope to speed up the process within the next five years. [Business of Fashion]
