The crowd went wild, witnessing a demonstration of power and speed when Tattoo, Globe’s broadband service brand, brought in Filipino-Swiss race car driving sensation Marlon Stöckinger to drive a Lotus F1 last week at the SM Mall of Asia open grounds.

 

The event, dubbed Manila Speed Show, highlighted Stöckinger—Tattoo’s brand ambassador—as the first Filipino to make it to the junior driver team of the prestigious Lotus F1 team. He zoomed in his F1 at about 350 km/hour, dahlings.

 

Globe senior executives, led by its amicable president and CEO Ernest Cu and senior adviser for consumer business Peter Bithos, were privileged to ride the two-seater Formula Renault cars driven by the Lotus F1 team’s Davide Valsecchi.

‘Flavors of the Visayas’

Our Visayan region’s famous seafoods and other to-die-for gastronomical delights took center stage at Mandarin Oriental Manila’s Paseo Uno, which held a weeklong “Flavors of the Visayas” festival. Guest chef was Pauline Gorriceta-Banusing, no less, palanggas. She’s renowned for representing Iloilo’s culinary scene.

 

Among chef Pauline’s signature dishes at the lunch and dinner buffets were favorites like Kadios, Baboy at Langka, or more popularly known as “KBL”; Chicken Inasal, natch; Lukon na may Aligue kag Paho; Aklan Fresh Prawns with crab fat in garlic and scallions; the popular Batchoy station; and loads of traditional Ilonggo desserts, including the refreshing Kamias Shake.

 

Some of Iloilo’s elite who partook of the culinary feast were fashion plate Emily Lopez and her tall eligible-bachelor son Tito and adorable daughter Celine; Pauline’s brothers, lawyer Mark Gorriceta with wife Carry, and Felix Gorriceta with wife Marissa; lawyer Connie Jimenez-Aquino with husband Ramon and daughter Maita; in-demand event floral stylist Robert Blancaflor; and fun pals Jun Belencion, Karen Ganzon and John Fernandez.

Justice for tweens

In between endless happenings, dahlings, moi had to see for myself the launching of Justice, the US fashion brand for tweens, at the East Wing of Shangri-La Plaza mall. The glittery event looked real cool even if guests were packed like sardines.

 

Justice—which marks its first branch in Asia—is distributed in Manila by Retail Specialist Inc., which also handles the Florsheim, Naturalizer, Bossini and Mayoral brands.

Serving the growing needs of kids age seven to 14, Justice is poised to attract attention with its assortment of funky clothes, accessories and other personal items.

 

“What attracted us to the brand was its amazing range of products, designs, quality and value for money,” said Rafael Dominguez, senior vice president and general manager of Retail Specialist Inc. and himself the father of a tween. “Tweens don’t really have a lot of choices [for clothes]… What’s [usually] available for them is either too girly or too grownup. When we first saw the store in the US, we got that feeling of ‘This is it!’ right away.”

 

At the Justice launch, sashaying models showed off a hip collection of trendy apparel and accessories that revealed the brand’s unique and fresh approach to tween fashion: fun but feminine, cute but cool, sweet but stylish.

 

It’s the ultimate shopping destination for tweens.
