Cabalin at UP Visayas
ILONGGO multimedia artist Alab Cabalfin is holding “Dagway Pamatan-on,” an exhibit of his terra-cotta sculptures at University of the Philippines Visayas Art Gallery.
On view are 25 portraits of people from his hometown of Leon, Iloilo. The subjects willingly posed for the homegrown artist, who has been fascinated by the idea that youthfulness is a state of mind and not just a stage of human life.
Show is on view till April 29.

Soliven at Pineapple Lab
“Achebe and Pollock in the Room” features paintings by Pollock-Krasner Foundation visual-arts grantee Nolet Soliven. It is on view until April 3 at Pineapple Lab.
Works feature Soliven’s emotive and textured abstracts, raw and intimate nudes from his personal collection, and his new 2015 series.
It is Nolet’s first exhibition after he suffered a stroke in 2013. This resulted in a debilitating condition that confined him to a wheelchair, affected his speech and communication, and the reality of possibly no longer being able to paint.

Padillas at Aura
Father-and-daughter tandem Vincent and Cezanne Padilla headline the March exhibits at Art Elements Asian Gallery on the 3rd Floor, SM Aura Premier Mall, Bonifacio Global City.
Vincent is known for using the glazing method and transparent oil painting on canvas for his background, deliberately contrasting it with the impasto alla prima painting of his figures.
Cezanne is 11 years old and is a musical prodigy who began playing the piano at age two. She then started painting correct hand gestures from her piano training, and each image represents the proper way of playing the Suzuki twinkles. She recently had her first solo piano recital. Cezanne is a scholar at the Australian International School in Global City.
Art Elements Asian Gallery also features guest artists Joan Balbarona, Van Tuico, David Justimbaste and Hanna Supetran.

Turalba at Duemila
“Vagari,” the solo exhibition by Josephine Turalba, runs until March 31 at Galleria Duemila.
The exhibition takes its name from the Latin word vagari, meaning to wander. Her latest suite of works features an array of multimedia works that encompass photography, video installation, painting and serigraph print.
Turalba incorporates performance, video, sculpture and sound to explore issues of violence, migration, struggle of wealth, power and micro-identity. Her projects take a visceral approach to the politics of violence. All of these open a barrage of potent discourses on the present state of politics and its affect within a global scale.

Brias at Altro Mondo
“In a New Light,” a solo exhibition of Filipino-Spanish artist Carmen Westendorp Brias, runs until March 17 at Altro Mondo Arte Contemporanea.
Now Madrid-based, Brias describes her works as ingenuo or naïve and innocent, a style conducive to her images of still lifes and landscapes as well as sculptures. A highly intuitive painter, she is inspired by memories of the Philippines where she was born and spent her childhood.

Eslao at Art Informal
“Beyond,” an exhibit of paintings by Jonas Eslao, is running at Art Informal.
Where do we go when we die? Eslao scrutinizes infinite possibilities by simulating an altar of pagan and contemporary forms of worship adorned with surreal paintings of persistent barbaric death rituals, and a toy menagerie drowned in urn-like jars filled with wax. It’s a mock museum of man’s collective spiritualization of nightmares.
