Kim Jones-Rosales’ love of shoes started in her teens. She made do with the pairs she had by altering them with embellishments, ribbons, and even platform heels during her “Spice Girls” phase. “I was 11, surrounded by chopped up magazine images of Baby Spice, desperate to be part of the trend,” recalls Kim. “So I chopped up a one-inch piece of styrofoam and stuck it under my clogs with some masking tape.” Though they didn’t last long in the wet Australian weather, her 11-year-old self was definitely proud of her resourcefulness.

These days, Kim has come a long way from DIY-ing her shoes to investing in brands she adores. Now she has the financial freedom to “invest in pieces I love at my own discretion.” One can see how much she values her stylish pairs by the way she neatly stores them in their boxes—all carefully wrapped and stuffed with fillers, protected from heat and moisture.

“I take good care of the shoes I have, hoping to one day pass them on to my daughters, and for them to get the same enjoyment out of them,” shares Kim. She fondly recalls the time she bought her go-to pair of Miu Miu mules. “For the longest time, I had been dreaming of owning a Miu Miu pair, so I saved up and purchased my first-ever pair during my honeymoon (with husband, actor Jericho Rosales) in Paris.” She adds, “It was the whole experience of being in the store in Paris for the first time that made it all so very sentimental.”

Though she usually shops for clothes online, she prefers to shop for shoes in stores, and makes it a point to go window-shopping, at the very least, for shoes at flea markets or designer stores. “As creepy as it sounds, I love smelling the leather and feeling the shoes,” says Kim.

As she currently finds inspiration in abstract art by artists such as Mark Rothko, Josef Albers, Britt Bass Turner, and Jenny Prinn, it’s no wonder she goes for statement shoes with “loud colors, unconventional designs, and interesting prints,” and even has a “strange attraction to fruit on shoes, from bananas to apples—you name it.”

She likes to be as adventurous with her wardrobe choices, as well, by experimenting with different looks. If she likes something, she’ll wear it; if it doesn’t work for her, she doesn’t sweat it. But most of the time, she’s drawn to full skirts and cinched waists reminiscent of the ’50s.

Though she wears many hats as a content creator for her website Miss Jones (www. kimcamjones.com), as a TV host, and as editor-in-chief of Makeup Magazine, she’s always impeccably dressed, with not a hair out of place.

She quips, “I like to have fun with colors and prints and anything that makes me feel feminine and empowered.”

For her, shoes “go beyond being a simple accessory, and often provide that extra surge of confidence.”
