To bring Hungarian culture and art through the medium of film closer to home, the Embassy of Hungary together with Shangri-La Plaza is holding the first-ever Hungarian Film Festival (HUFF) in the Philippines. They’ll be featuring four critically-acclaimed films that have never been screened here. Held at Shang Cineplex inside Mandaluyong’s Shangri-La Plaza, on Dec. 1 and 2, admission is free for all. Seating will be first come-first-serve basis so better come early! Ticket booth will be open 30 minutes before screening. 

Son of Saul (2015)

Based on a true story from WWII, Son of Saul by director László Nemes is about the journey of Saul Ausländer (played by Géza Röhrig), a Jewish worker at the Auschwitz concentration camp, in finding a rabbi who can give a proper burial to the body of a dead boy that he found.

Strangled/ A Martfűi rém (2016)

Based on real-life events, Strangled thriller film by director Arpad Sopsits, about a murderer on the loose; a young man falsely accused of doing said murders and a determined detective who works gracefully under the pressure of prosecutors.

Paw/ Mancs (2015)

Inspired by true events, Paw by director Robert-Adrian Pejo is about the rescue tandem of Zoli, a tram engineer, and his dog, as they overcome obstacles that lead them to international fame, success and fulfillment.

Kincsem – Bet on Revenge (2017) 

Based on the true story of a legendary race horse, Kincsem by director Gabor Herendi is about the owner of a brilliant race horse named Kincsem, who carries out his revenge to his father’s murderer.

The inaugural Hungarian Film Festival (HUFF) will be held on Dec. 1 & 2, 2017 at Shangri-La Plaza, Edsa corner Shaw Boulevard. Admission is free.
