The new design trends for Winter 2017-18 are chokers, dog collars, bib cascades, opera-length and layered necklaces, sometimes four worn one on top of another; Chanel has been doing this always and forever.

There are the bold and brutal street style in stainless steel at Margiela by John Galliano. There are baroque suites (matching earrings, necklace and ring sets). The millennials appropriated ’80s punk and a different take on dog collars and chokers, seen best at Valentino and Gucci.

Everyone agrees, though, that it will be the year of the statement necklace of rococo style. At Elie Saab, semiprecious stones blend into beaded evening gowns, or into a draped scarf made of hammered gold.
