The Writer’s Bloc Inc., an independent group of emerging and established playwrights led by Palanca Hall of Fame inductee Rody Vera, is inviting interested parties to attend its regular reading sessions of new plays every other Sunday afternoon, starting Aug. 5 at 2 p.m.
The plays read and discussed during these sessions will be considered for presentation at the annual Virgin Labfest. The Writer’s Bloc organizes the lauded theater festival with Cultural Center of the Philippines and Tanghalang Pilipino.
Since 2005, the Virgin Labfest has introduced a new generation of Filipino playwrights. They include Writer’s Bloc members Layeta Bucoy (“Doc Resurreccion, Gagamutin ang Bayan,” adaptations of “Sandosenang Sapatos” and “Bona”), Allan Lopez (“Anatomiya ng Pag-ibig,” “Higit Pa Dito”), Dingdong Novenario (“Kafatiran,” “Ang Huling El Bimbo”) and Eljay Castro Deldoc (“Pilipinas Kong Mahal with All the Overcoat,” “Binondo: A Tsinoy Musical”).
Also in the group are prize-winners Nicolas Pichay (“Isang Araw sa Karnabal,” “Maxie the Musicale”), Liza Magtoto (“Agnoia,” “Care Divas,” “Rak of Aegis”) and Vincent de Jesus (“Changing Partners”).
The reading sessions are free of charge.
