The 23-year-old beauty queen, who showed courage and strength despite stumbling in the preliminaries, finished her journey early in the competition.

“Tonight, my heart is filled with joy knowing that my entire country stood up with me when I fell at the @missgrandinternational stage,” the registered nurse and aspiring lawyer wrote on Wednesday in an Instagram post.

“I hope that I have shown courage, strength and the essence of rising from every stumble in life,” she added.

Nonetheless, Patalinjug made it to sixth place in the competition’s Top 10 Miss Popular Vote.

The pageant was ultimately won by Paraguay’s Clara Sosa, succeeding Peru’s Maria Jose Lora. The other winners are: Meenakshi Chaudhary, India (1st runner-up); Nadia Purwoko, Indonesia (2nd runner-up); Nadia Colon Rivera, Puerto Rico (3rd runner-up); and Haruka Oda, Japan (4th runner-up).

The Philippines has yet to snatch its first Miss Grand International victory. /kga
