The Chinese New Year is not for another three months or so, but the way people are talking about it (at least those I have been in contact with in the recent weeks), you would think it was just around the corner! In case you didn’t know, we are entering the year of the Water Dragon this Jan. 23, 2012.
It’s the year of the Water Dragon, and there’s no better way to welcome the auspicious year than being at Mandarin Oriental, Manila, for its fabulous food celebration.
The Lunar New Year in Chinese society or community traditionally sees the emergence and proliferation of decorative pictures and prints overflowing with auspicious symbols to convey wishes for good fortune, prosperity, longevity and even double happiness.
We are approaching another Dragon Year. While everyone is busy preparing for the coming Chinese Lunar New Year on Monday, Jan. 23, it is worth knowing that, officially, the Year of the Rabbit year will end Feb. 4, at 6:40 p.m.

For the first time, Chinese New Year is a holiday in the country. In the past, I thought it worked well for us that it was like any ordinary day here because many Chinese from other parts of Asia would come to town and celebrate since shops and restaurants here remained open.
