If the Aliw Awards were still interested in upping its credibility —or if it wants to show that it does pay attention at all—then the race for the Best Female Concert Performer trophy should be over by now. The winner is Bituin Escalante, whose voice basically nuked the CCP Little Theater to the ground during her solo concert, “Everything in Bituin,” last Oct. 9.
Bituin Escalante can go easily from diva to man drag. She was recently seen in Resorts World Manila’s production of “Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” as a glam diva, and now she is playing the stern Coachman in Repertory Philippines’ “Pinocchio,” a children’s musical.
Singer-actress Bituin Escalante stages her solo concert titled “Everything in Bituin,” the third and final series of “Triple Threats: Leading Men and Women of Philippine Musical Theater,” on October 9 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (CCP Little Theater) at 7:30pm. The previous concerts featured Sheila Francisco and Michael Williams.
