It was nice to catch Lourd de Veyra one late Friday night at SaGuijo. He was playing guitar in a band called Kapitan Kulam, whose lead singer happens to be Jun Sabayton, one of De Veyra’s cohorts on the TV5 show “Kontrabando.”
Saguijo is a rock club that was born, in the words of owner Chris Carlos, “in the spirit of the late, great Club Dredd.” What he meant was that saGuijo—named after its location on Guijo Street in Makati—is a venue of unknown but talented bands that play their own music, or at least do covers that have yet to be heard on TV variety shows.
We have a strong feeling that many of the kids who flocked to the recent 7107 International Music Fest in Clark, Pampanga, will comprise the audience at the Closeup Forever Summer dance music fest on April 5 at the Globe Circuit grounds in Makati (the site of the old Sta. Ana racetrack).
Nemo Aguila is one of the newest groundbreaking artists on the scene. What sets him apart, though, is that he is a 26-year-old multidisciplinary artist. Yes, multi. Not only is he a visual artist who does paintings, street art, drawings, and illustrations; he is also a toy designer. He is having an exciting exhibit on the 19th of December in the Pocket Universe Art Collective in Saguijo Café + Bar called “Out of Order.” He took time out from his busy schedule to answer a few questions for me.
