Ruth Reichl to edit ‘The Best American Food Writing’
Former New York Times food critic Ruth Reichl will guest edit the first edition of “The Best American Food Writing” from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt out in October.
Michelle McNamara’s book to come out two years after her death
Michelle took a deep dive into the hunt for the rapist and murderer who committed atrocious crimes across California from 1976 to 1986 but died in her sleep in 2016 before she could solve the case. “I’ll Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman’s Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer” will come out in February.
Will 2018 be the year Allie Brosh returns?
We loved Allie Brosh’s “Hyperbole and a Half” and have been waiting for the sequel “Solution and Other Problems.” But the release date changed from 2016 to 2030 to 2048 before finally becoming marked unavailable on Amazon. Longtime fans of Allie know of her reclusive tendencies but we’re hoping she’ll return this year.
Bill Clinton collaborates with James Patterson
Their political thriller, called “The President Is Missing,” will come out in June. We’ll read it just to see if a blue dress makes an appearance.
Adam J. Kurtz in Manila!
The artist and author of “1 Page at a Time,” “Things Are What You Make of Them” and “Pick Me Up” is headed to the Philippines for Graphika Manila 2018 on Feb. 3 and 4. He’ll also have a book signing at National Book Store Glorietta on Feb. 2.

We can’t wait to watch “A Wrinkle In Time” (March 7), the film adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s 1962 novel. Directed by Ava DuVernay and starring Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling and Storm Reid, this film was made with so much love—something we got to see when we visited the set. Jonah Hill and Emma Stone reunite in the Netflix series “Maniac.” Netflix is also doing a “Queer Eye for a Straight Guy” reboot. We can’t wait for “Narcos” season 4 and we know the new season of “Black Mirror” just came out but we need more episodes, stat!

Elbert’s Sandwiches will also be relaunching in Power Plant soon. Mendokoro Ramenba (we’re obsessed!) will open a new branch in Icon Plaza in BGC. Elbert’s Upstairs Bar will also open in the space’s mezzanine. This year is exciting for Charlie Paw and The Tasteless Group: Cuba Libre will open in Serendra third week of January, UK chain Pizza Express will open at Uptown Mall end of this month and Scout’s Honor will open its first stand-alone store at Vertis North in February. Hanamaruken will open at Hole in the Wall.
Bad Bird will also open in Serendra end of January and in Robinson’s Place Manila and UP Town Center in early February.
Eat Yourself Bankrupt, a mini food hall featuring concepts from Osaka including a Michelin-listed takoyaki place, will launch at Robinson’s Place Manila in May.
Pompoms, a joint venture of Charlie, Julien Agosta and Erwan Heussaff, will open in Robinsons Place Manila mid-January.

We hope to spend less in 2018 but there are things that awaken the shopping monsters in us: new Fuchico releases, Happy Skin collaborations and new Dr. Martens collections. We’re already eyeing that Tate collab and pride boots.
Fiction or not, we can’t wait to see the next chapter in Adam Ellis’ #DearDavid chronicles. That creepy kid with the dented head is the stuff of nightmares.
